Handless Maiden
Handless Maiden — Victoria Vinogradova
Opening 21.November 6pm
22.November and 23.November 12-5pm
Vienna-based artist Victoria Vinogradova presents Handless Maiden, featuring her latest works on paper and printmaking research from AGA_LAB Amsterdam (May 2025). Since 2020, she has worked primarily in colored pencil, pushing this luminous outsider medium to it ́s limits, using ambitious proportions while weaving together everyday life flow in private spaces with fairy tales, historic references and an archetypical lexicon of art history.
Her glowing figures appear to emit light from within. Domestic scenes transform into psychological landscapes, where housekeeping, cooking, and kitchen rituals become alchemy—brewing not only substances but new selves. The exhibition takes its name from the folk tale The Handless Maiden, a story of loss, endurance, and the reclaiming of strength. In Vinogradova’s visual language, it becomes a metaphor for female self- discovery and also winks at the “acrobatic” left-handed screen printing she had to improvise during the residency, due to a hand injury.
Victoria Vinogradova lives and works in Vienna. She studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, as well as Art History and Textile Conservation at the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow and the University of Vienna. Her works have been shown at the Essl Museum (AT), the MUSA Startgalerie (AT), the Industriemuseum Chemnitz (DE), and the Chinretsukan Gallery in Tokyo (JP), and are held in public collections such as the Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Wien Museum. Since 2022, she has been the project coordinator of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna’s annual benefit auction.
