I wanted so much for magic to be real
There is a kind of longing that stays with us from childhood: the wish that a door to the forest might open, that a dream might leave a mark in the morning, that maybe if you held your breath long enough at the bottom of a pool you would begin to grow scales. That something small and impossible might be waiting just beyond what we can see.
We wanted so much for magic to be real. Perhaps we still do. We remember things we feel cannot be real. Sometimes it appears as a room, a view from a dream, a feeling that something important happened long ago and has not quite finished happening.
In this exhibition, works sit together like things found on the same walk. A walk where you step off a path and follow a small stream and the stream gurgles into a pond where things forgotten and remembered rise in muddy clouds from the bottom. A place where memory may be soft, strange, and unfinished.
We are interested in the things we carry unintentionally. Longing for something different, half-remembered dreams, the tenderness of looking back. The moment when wishing becomes a way of seeing. Magic that allows for wonder, for play, for a world to be more alive than it might first appear.
We wish you real magic,
Max and Pablo
