In Dutch, Slootwater means ditch water or a weak, dull drink — tired and lifeless.
Slootwater, a short film by Leo Mokkala, offers a fleeting glimpse into the hazy life of Blue Man, a fictional horror film actor. Like a digital glitch in a perfect system, he exists as an outsider — striving to be effective and unobtrusive, yet a source of discomfort and criticism.
Part silent film, part audiovisual EP, and part mockumentary, Slootwater is a retro, experimental study of pop culture.
The screenings feature a live performance, God, It’s Hard to Be a Blue Man, a collaboration between Mokkala and visual artist Hamish Ford, who portrays the Blue Man in the film.
The performance is a playful exploration of hybrid use of artificial intelligence in music-theatre. Although based on the protagonist of the short film Slootwater, the performance is an autonomous work that is meant to take on a life of its own.
Between screenings, the film will be shown as part of an installation at De Bouwput.

Slootwater, een korte film van Leo Mokkala, biedt een vluchtige blik in het wazige leven van Blue Man, een fictieve horrorfilm-acteur. Als een digitale storing in een perfect systeem bestaat hij als een buitenstaander - hij streeft ernaar effectief en onopvallend te zijn, maar is tegelijkertijd een bron van ongemak en kritiek. Slootwater, deels stomme film, deels audiovisuele EP en deels mockumentary, is een retro, experimenteel onderzoek naar popcultuur.
De vertoningen bevatten een live performance, God, It's Hard to Be a Blue Man, een samenwerking tussen Mokkala en beeldend kunstenaar Hamish Ford, die de Blue Man in de film vertolkt.
De performance is een speelse verkenning van het hybride gebruik van kunstmatige intelligentie in muziektheater. Hoewel gebaseerd op de hoofdpersoon uit de korte film Slootwater, is de performance een autonoom werk dat bedoeld is om een eigen leven te gaan leiden.
Tussen de vertoningen door zal de film te zien zijn als onderdeel van een installatie in De Bouwput.
