TWIST PLAYGROUND
TWIST PLAYGROUND functions both as an exhibition and as a laboratory, exploring the psychological and cultural significance of playful escapism in a time of visual overload and rapid imagery. Through the interplay of color, form, texture, and sensory experience, and by slowing down perception while amplifying the soft glow of color and texture, the artists invite visitors to look again and reflect on how intensity, attention, and a childlike sense of wonder can enrich contemporary life.
Visual artists Uzine Park (Seoul/Amsterdam 1977) and Charlie Kater (Venlo 1970) present TWIST PLAYGROUND, an immersive installation that explores how art can become a source of joy and liberation. Through the interplay of vivid colors, minimalist forms, and sensory experience, the project offers an alternative sanctuary from the stresses of daily life, inviting visitors to momentarily step outside the acceleration and certainties of the everyday.
Uzine Park translates the overlapping landscapes of differing natural worlds onto the canvas, exploring the new sensory perceptions and identities that emerge in the delicate balance between migration and settlement. Recently, she has extended this painterly practice into daily life by sharing minari roots.
Charlie Kater explores how meaning emerges through the active process of looking rather than through representation, building geometric structures that evoke architectural familiarity before shifting into uncertainty. By exposing raw materials, fillers, and the visible traces of making, he reveals a depth beyond surface appearances and shows that meaning is continually negotiated through perception
Finissage Event
[Well Mixed Minari] is a visceral space of cultural exchange designed to manifest our presence through flavor and friction. Over a bed of fresh minari—a plant that fiercely strikes deep roots in any unfamiliar soil—participants will dump, toss, and violently blend global sauces carried directly from their respective homelands. As these distinct cultural pigments intertwine, this sudden "twist" of taste completely hijacks the heavy, linear narrative of migration. It turns displacement into a delicious, chaotic celebration of solidarity, proving that when entirely different backgrounds bleed into one another, they forge a radically harmonious new community.
