A Passage (installation view), 2024

For this exhibition Hyeonju Lee and Gļeb Maiboroda are bringing their practices together. Situated in a state of in-betweenness, they attempt to capture spaces and materials that exist in a presence of silence. Embodied through the act of drawing and painting, the artists depict places of daily life where the traces of human presence and touch have been left.

Hyeonju Lee is from South Korea and lives as an artist and filmmaker between the Netherlands and Germany. She received a BA from Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Fine Arts in Amsterdam in 2019 and a diploma in Media Art from HfG Karlsruhe 01. 2025. In 2014 she completed a curatorial internship at a national museum in Seoul. Since 2018, she has participated in several group exhibitions, including screenings at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, SMAK in Ghent, and Pact Zollverein Essen. Hyeonju's practice encompasses a wide range of media, from writing to painting and film. Her approach is distinctly auto-fictional, drawing on her collective memories to illuminate the surreal aspects of everyday life. Through her work, viewers are invited to immerse themselves in multiple coexisting timelines, offering a rich interweaving of temporal experiences.
