Remains

Remains presents fictional geological artefacts made during Natnapat Kullananant's residency at EKWC Oisterwijk. Dark clay frames, hand-built in standing, lying, and wall-mounting structures, hold glass fused within. Glass bottles gathered from the residency's communal kitchen were crushed and fused onto bisque-fired clay frames at a slow pace up to 900°C. The smooth, reflective glass unforeseeably transformed into a stone-like, opaque finish.
The project examines what society keeps and what it discards. Things are valued by their use rather than their materiality. This pairing brings a contrast: ceramic pieces are often made to last, while glass, in a disposable context, loses its perceived value once its contents are consumed. This fictional geology reverses that perception, where glass transforms into a post- retirement identity, held within the enduring clay. These artefacts stand as records of what remained through that transformation.
