DE BOUWPUT will present Jun Iwamoto’s solo exhibition, Hiroshima Vision. His exhibition will show six large-scale photographic works and a large-scale painting based on existing press photos from the G7 Hiroshima Summit 2023, which topic has never been shown in Amsterdam before.
He worked with the press photos which he edited himself by rephotographing them with unconventional use of flash lights and lens blur, to create ambiguous images like abstractions from reality or a fading/failing memory. His works are about an urgent social theme: what is truth/reality and what is fiction/falsehood in a world in which images play an important role? His idea to take the G7 Hiroshima Summit as a starting point - in which world leaders are working towards a world without nuclear weapons with the issuance of Hiroshima Vision on Nuclear Disarmament – reflect the world where war is an everyday occurrence.
What is the social effect of representation, which goes beyond press photos and moves between reality and fiction as artwork? How do you feel and interpret it?
He explores how information and expression can be layered and embedded within certain scenes and signifiers. These photographic works of 180 x 120 cm and a large-scale oil painting of 200 x 150 cm question viewers about the changing relationship between "seeing" and "knowing" and "feeling".
