When dance and painting come together, a completely new language is created – Issam Zemmouri

That is exactly what the Historia Collection exhibition stands for. Maker Issam Zemmouri shows here a series of paintings inspired by scenes from the dance performance HISTORIA of the same name, where each painting represents a unique moment and the characteristic drama of the performance. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy an extraordinary artistic experience that brings together dance, movement and color in a unique exhibition! The exhibition can be viewed free of charge.

About the exhibition

The colorful paintings that shape this exhibition were created during the lockdown period following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021. Because this period limited the dancer's freedom of movement, he looked for alternative ways to express his creativity; with paint and canvas. The results are visible in a special exhibition in which Issam brings dance, movement and color together into a harmonious whole.

The Historia Collection offers a unique artistic experience and a special view of the maker's practice. Issam stands out for his ability to translate dance movements into colors and express them visually, giving visitors a unique opportunity to discover the story through colors and shapes. A valuable addition to the performance allows visitors to explore art in its different dimensions and allows the creator to fully express his creativity and movement.

About the creator

Issam Zemmouri is a choreographer and dancer with a unique style. By combining contemporary dance, physical expression and strong visual elements, he knows how to address sensitive subjects where words fail. With his unique physical and visual language, he manages to unexpectedly transform the space and the character into a new experience. He is a master at working with objects that repeatedly challenge the viewer's perception. Zemmouri followed dance training in Morocco and France, has been based in the Netherlands for over five years and is a regular player at ZID. Issam was also an active participant in the FATE (Future Academy on Tour in Europe) training program. As part of this process, he received training in various dance and theater techniques and organizational skills. Despite his visual impairment, which has developed over the years, he does everything possible to realize his ambitions.
