Between Realms
“Where do you stand within the realms that shape your life? Are you rooted in a known world, or do you drift between the boundaries of self, society, and nature?”
Between Realms invites you into an artistic space where boundaries dissolve and certainties blur. Seven artists—Masatoshi Chatani, Kyoko Takemura, Cobird, Hiroaki Onuma, Georgy Dendoe, Akihiro Boujoh, and Efrain Vivas Hattori—use diverse methodologies and media to confront and explore the spaces where identities, environments, and experiences overlap. Their works challenge not only the division between art and life but also the limits we impose on ourselves—urging us to question what lies beyond the visible, tangible world.
Masatoshi Chatani’s compelling photographs intricately weave currency and fashion, dissecting the symbols of power and facade. He beckons us to reexamine our intrinsic worth in a world where the essence of life is often reduced to mere commodities. Kyoko Takemura’s conceptual pieces reveal the sacred within the mundane, uncovering latent spiritual forces within the products of consumer culture—transforming the everyday into a meditation on mortality, consumption, and meaning. Cobird brings the tactile into dialogue with the digital, integrating painstaking manual labor with pre-designed digital drafts, inviting us to reflect on the evolving relationship between human touch and technological precision.
Hiroaki Onuma, by invoking mythic creatures, taps into the emotional landscape of isolation and empathy, pushing us to consider how we engage with others in a world where both human and mythological forms struggle to connect. Georgy Dendoe merges the personal and the global, visualizing his own cultural hybridity—infusing elements of his youth, pop culture, and street fashion with deeper reflections on identity and cultural fluidity. Akihiro Boujoh’s installations, combining natural and artificial materials, engage viewers in an ever-shifting experience of perception, challenging us to reconsider the constructed environments that surround and define us. Meanwhile, Efrain Vivas Hattori’s exploration of urban landscapes unveils the hidden narratives buried within the concrete expanses of modern cities, capturing the fragile balance between progress and decay.
Together, these artists confront the uncertainty of boundaries in a world that grows increasingly interconnected yet fragmented. Their works exist in the space between the tangible and the imagined, the self and the other, offering us new ways of seeing and being in a time of profound social, cultural, and environmental transformation. In this exhibition, the lines that separate us from each other and from the world dissolve, revealing the complexity and potential of liminality.
This is not merely a viewing experience—it is an invitation to engage, question, and connect. As you move through the realms of painting, sculpture, photography, and installation, allow yourself to embrace the blurring of your own boundaries through the works. Engage in the conversations they spark, and explore how these artists’ visions can open new doors to understanding not only the world around us, but the landscapes within.
